Minister Vikramaditya Singh has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the construction of the Sanjauli Mosque in Shimla, stating that if the mosque is deemed “illegal,” action will be taken. He also raised concerns about immigrants, calling it a significant issue for the people of Himachal Pradesh.

The fate of the mosque will be decided in the Municipal Commissioner’s court on September 7, where it will be determined whether the “unauthorized construction” should be demolished. Singh emphasized that the government is actively addressing the issue of structural illegality and that the matter is under consideration by the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

Singh also expressed concern over immigrants, particularly from Uttar Pradesh, and their impact on law and order. He assured that the police, under strict orders from the Chief Minister, are vigilant to prevent any disturbances.

Additionally, Singh highlighted the state government’s significant investment in maintaining and reconstructing temples in Himachal but emphasized the need to maintain harmony among all communities. He stressed the importance of not hurting anyone’s sentiments while ensuring balance across religious groups.

HP Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh echoed these sentiments, stating that illegal construction, whether a temple or a mosque, should not be tolerated. He pointed out that despite years of hearings on the Sanjauli mosque case, construction was carried out illegally. He urged for a review of records related to illegal immigrants and their potential involvement in criminal activities, whether they come from outside India or within the country.

The controversy has sparked a heated debate in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, with both ministers calling for stricter action and vigilance.
