Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary, the Minister of Public Health Engineering, emphasized the significance of advancing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and announced daily monitoring of the ongoing mega projects. Minister Chaudhary stressed that increased water connections (FHTCs) were pivotal to the success of the mission.
He underscored the need for a proactive approach, directing officials to closely monitor the progress of mega projects and take immediate action against any hindrances.
During a review meeting of JJM mega projects at Jal Bhawan, Minister Chaudhary issued clear directives to accelerate the water connections in projects with existing work orders. He urged regular assessments of project progress at the Secretary, Managing Director, and Chief Engineer levels. Addressing the meeting, he emphasized the importance of swift decision-making by the officers.
Minister Chaudhary ordered the preparation of an obstruction register at project sites to document challenges faced by contractor firms, with instructions for the concerned engineer’s signature. Additionally, he directed Chief Engineers and Additional Chief Engineers overseeing districts to conduct monthly on-site inspections of ongoing projects. The Minister affirmed that responsibilities would be assigned to engineers overseeing districts with slower projects and FHTC progress.
During the meeting, Minister Chaudhary sought reasons for project delays from contractor firm representatives and expressed the government’s commitment to providing full support in addressing genuine challenges faced by them.
The Water Supply Minister also highlighted the need to fix responsibilities for operation and maintenance to curb water wastage due to leaks. He urged a focus on preventing water wastage and maximizing the efficient use of available water resources.
