Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister and MLA Kharar, Anmol Gagan Mann on Monday reiterated that there is no place for drugs and illegal activities in Kharar and the violators would be dealt with stern action.
Chairing a meeting with SSP Dr Sandeep Garg and other senior police officials of the district and SHOs of the Kharar constituency, Minister Anmol Gagan Mann directed the Police Officials to crack down heavily on the anti-social elements that are tarnishing the future of Punjab by supplying drugs to them.
She made it clear that there would be no political interference in the working of Police on this issue and they are free to act against the drug peddlers and smugglers to protect our younger generations.
SSP Dr Sandeep Garg while apprising her of the FIRs and arrests made in this regard since January 1, 2023, said that a total of 219 cases had been registered under NDPS in the district including 90 of Kharar-1 and 2 Police Sub Divisions. In these cases, a total of 316 accused had been arrested, including 133 in the Kharar Sub Division.
Minister while appreciating the move of Police against the crusade against drug paddlers and smugglers, insisted upon the more strictness against the culprits to wipe out the drug menace completely from the area. She asked officials to take stern action against the culprits and nobody should be spared indulging in the drug trade. Reiterating Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment against rooting out the drugs from the land of five rivers, she said that the Punjab Government is clear on its stand. Anybody found in drug trafficking would be treated as the enemy of our young generation and would be put behind bars by the Police. She asked the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kharar-1, Karan S Sandhu, Kharar-2, Dharamvir Singh and Mohali-Rural, Prabhjot Kaur to be strict on the drug peddlers and keep a strict vigil on the activities of the suspicious persons.
SP Rural, Manpreet Singh assured the Minister of the strict action against the anti-social elements indulged in drug trafficking and said that awareness, as well as enforcement, is doing as well. As per the suggestion of the Minister, SSP Dr Sandeep Garg asked the DSP Rural Prabhjot Kaur to be present at Naya Gaon for the whole day once a week.
