UAE, Albania Strengthen Ties with Key Agreements

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama met in Tirana to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. Their discussions focused on key sectors such as trade, renewable energy, food security, and technology.

Edi Rama welcomed the UAE leader and emphasized Albania’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the UAE for mutual growth.

Commitment to Peace and Stability

The two leaders also reviewed international and regional developments, with Sheikh Mohamed reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in the Balkan region. He emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue are key to resolving conflicts and ensuring prosperity.

Economic Growth and Investment

Highlighting the growing UAE-Albania partnership, Sheikh Mohamed noted that non-oil trade between the two nations increased by 129.4% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Both sides expressed determination to expand their economic ties further.

Key Agreements Signed

During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed and Edi Rama witnessed the exchange of crucial agreements, including:

  • Renewable Energy Cooperation: A framework agreement between Masdar, TAQA Transmission, Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH), and Operatori i Sistemit te Transmetimit (OST) was signed to advance renewable energy projects in Albania. This initiative aims to improve energy security and accelerate the shift to clean energy in the Mediterranean region.
  • Smart City Development: A letter of engagement was signed between Presight AI and Albania’s Ministry of Interior to develop the Albania Smart City Project, improving urban infrastructure and public facilities.

High-Profile Delegation and Ceremony

The UAE President received an official welcome at the Palace of Brigades, where national anthems were played, and an honor guard saluted him. A banquet was hosted by Edi Rama in Sheikh Mohamed’s honor.

The UAE delegation included senior officials such as Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister; Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; and Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Albania.
