Singapore Airlines Plane Triggers Runway Closure At Japan Airport

Japan’s Narita Airport has been closed temporarily as white smoke was coming out from Singapore Airlines plane during landing was reported on Monday. Despite the alarming report, officials confirmed that no fire was detected and there were no injuries.

The incident occurred shortly after the flight landed at Narita, the main gateway to Tokyo, around 7:40 am local time (2240 GMT). Six fire engines and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and runway B was temporarily closed, according to airport and fire officials.

“We received a report of white smoke rising from the left engine,” a Narita city fire official told AFP. However, after over an hour of observation, firefighters found no signs of a fire and subsequently left the scene.

The plane was carrying 276 passengers and crew members at the time. The smoke was reported to the airport after landing, with an airport official noting that the flight communicated a possible issue during its landing. Pieces of tyre were later found on the runway, but no additional information was provided about the incident.
