Pakistan: Karachi Residents Protest Against Water Supply Disruptions

Residents in Karachi staged a protest, blocking roads near Nasir Jump and burning tires to protest a 10-day water supply disruption, as reported by The Express Tribune.

The demonstrators, frustrated by the prolonged water scarcity in Nasir Colony and nearby areas, expressed their anger over the shortage and rising water prices. They highlighted difficulties in purchasing water bottles and frequent refusals from hydrant operators.

The protest, which started late Friday night, led to significant traffic disruptions between Korangi and Landhi, causing severe congestion. Despite numerous complaints to the water board, residents reported no action taken, leading them to escalate their protest. Police have engaged with protesters and promised to liaise with water board officials to resolve the issue.

The water crisis in Karachi is exacerbated by a supply-demand imbalance, population growth, poor infrastructure, and climate change. Local authorities are working to address the issue, but residents continue to face significant hardships due to unreliable water access.
