Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim Sings Hindi Classic During Delhi Visit

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, showcased his love for Indian cinema by singing the classic Hindi song “Dost Dost Na Raha” during his visit to Delhi on Thursday. The song, originally sung by Mukesh and popularized by Shammi Kapoor, was a nostalgic choice that highlighted the cultural ties between Malaysia and India.

A Nod to Bollywood and Shammi Kapoor

Ibrahim, who was on his first official visit to India since becoming Prime Minister, expressed his admiration for Bollywood and specifically mentioned his fondness for the legendary actor Shammi Kapoor. His impromptu performance was well-received, adding a personal touch to his diplomatic visit.

Strengthening India-Malaysia Relations

During his visit, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders discussed the progress in their bilateral relationship and decided to elevate it to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.’ This marks a significant milestone as both nations look to deepen cooperation in various sectors.

PM Modi’s Gratitude

Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for Ibrahim’s visit, noting the growing partnership between India and Malaysia. “After becoming the Prime Minister, this is Shri Anwar Ibrahim ji’s first visit to India. It’s an honour for me to host him during my third term. We are soon to complete the first decade of India-Malaysia Strategic Partnership,” Modi said.

He further emphasized the progress in bilateral trade, including transactions in both the Indian Rupee and Malaysian Ringgit, signifying stronger economic ties between the two countries.

A Visit to Remember

Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India not only strengthened diplomatic relations but also underscored the cultural connections that bind the two nations. His rendition of “Dost Dost Na Raha” will be remembered as a moment that highlighted the warmth and camaraderie between the two leaders and their countries.
