Tel Aviv [Israel], December 31: Israeli forces raided the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning medical facility in Northern Gaza, causing significant damage and evacuating its patients and doctors, as reported by CNN. The facility has now been rendered “totally out of service,” according to Mohammed Salha, director of Al Awda Hospital.
The Israeli military detained Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital’s director, alleging he was a “Hamas terrorist operative.” The raid has left the hospital empty, impacting critically ill patients, as confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Health Crisis in Northern Gaza Intensifies
The United Nations reported that approximately 75,000 Palestinians in Northern Gaza are now at heightened risk due to the raid. Mohammed Salha stated that his hospital is overwhelmed with patients and on the verge of running out of essential supplies. “We have one surgeon, and surgeries are performed only in life-threatening cases. The health system in the north has completely collapsed,” Salha noted.
IDF Reports Hamas Ambushes in Jabaliya
In parallel developments, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that dozens of Hamas gunmen were killed in ambushes in Jabaliya overnight. According to the IDF, these squads were neutralized using gunfire and tank shelling after being spotted fleeing with weapons.
The IDF cited these operations as part of their broader efforts to neutralize Hamas, following the group’s attacks on October 7, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and 252 hostages. Of the 97 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead.

The raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital exacerbates the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where medical resources are nearly depleted, and thousands of residents are without access to critical care. International organizations have called for immediate humanitarian aid and a ceasefire to address the worsening conditions.
