The Indian High Commission in London has issued a travel advisory urging Indian travelers to exercise caution and stay vigilant while in the United Kingdom. This advisory follows the UK’s worst outbreak of rioting in over a decade, during which violent protesters have targeted migrants, particularly Muslims.
Indian travelers are advised to stay informed through local news and avoid areas experiencing protests. The High Commission stated, “We are closely monitoring the situation. Visitors from India are advised to remain vigilant and exercise due caution while traveling in the UK.”
The rioting escalated after the stabbing of three young girls in Southport last week. This incident has been exploited by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups, with disinformation spread online and amplified by far-right figures. The unrest began after claims surfaced that a suspect in the stabbing was a radical Islamist. However, police have clarified that the 17-year-old suspect, born in Britain to Rwandan immigrants, is not considered a terrorist threat.
