Israel has published never-before-seen video of slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar described by Israel as the “mastermind” behind the October 7, 2023, attack of the militant group, the Qatari-based media organization Al Jazeera. Having started the ongoing war in Gaza aimed at Israel, these attacks were carried out from a territory under Hamas control.

Sinwar is depicted running military operations in the Rafah neighborhood of southern Gaza. Covered somewhat by a cover, he wears a military vest and brandishes a stick. According local press, a graffiti writing on a nearby wall meaning “north” in Hebrew could suggest that Israeli forces stormed the building before Sinwar came.

Elsewhere in the movie, Sinwar is dressed in a polo shirt pointing a map beside someone. Al Jazeera during his Hamas rule also showed photographs of a Sinwar-signed order authorizing the October 7 assaults.

Sinwar was shot by Israeli forces on October 18 of last year, just days before his 62nd birthday. His final moments are believed to have been captured by an Irael Defense Forces (IDF) drone. Several days following his death, Israel published a video of Sinwar and his family within a Gaza underground passage claiming it was taken on October 6—just before Hamas attacked Israel.
