Paramount+ has announced a new espionage thriller titled ‘The Agency,’ featuring acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender, who will also serve as an executive producer. Previously known as ‘The Department,’ the series is inspired by the French show ‘Le Bureau des Legendes’ and has already begun production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fassbender, a two-time Oscar nominee recognized for his roles in films like ‘Steve Jobs’ and ’12 Years a Slave,’ will play a CIA agent entangled in a complex web of international intrigue. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the story revolves around his character being recalled from his undercover mission to London Station, where his past and present converge with unforeseen consequences, including a rekindled romance that complicates his mission.

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, commended Fassbender’s casting, highlighting his ability to bring depth and complexity to his roles. “Michael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time,” McCarthy stated, emphasizing the excitement surrounding Fassbender’s involvement in ‘The Agency’ as part of Paramount’s new lineup of original programming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Agency’ represents a significant project for Paramount+, especially following its rebranding from Showtime. The production is managed by Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios in partnership with 101 Studios.

The series has attracted attention not only for its star-studded cast but also for its creative team, which includes George Clooney and Grant Heslov of Smokehouse Pictures, directors Joe Wright, and writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. Fassbender’s recent roles include parts in Taika Waititi’s ‘Next Goal Wins’ and David Fincher’s Netflix film ‘The Killer.’ He has also completed filming on Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming movie ‘Black Bag.’

Executive producers for ‘The Agency’ include Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, along with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari of 101 Studios, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Additional contributions come from Alex Berger for TOP-The Originals Productions and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton for Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.

As production of ‘The Agency’ progresses, anticipation builds among fans of espionage thrillers and Michael Fassbender alike. Scheduled for release on Paramount+ with the Showtime tier, ‘The Agency’ is set to captivate audiences with its mix of suspense, romance, and international intrigue.
