Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma launched the online portal of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) on Thursday in Shillong, in the presence of home minister Lahkmen Rymbui and other officials.

According to the chief minister, the digitised system will not only ensure the safety and security of residents, but it will also serve as a powerful intelligence gathering system for authorities. It will be useful for monitoring and improving the implementation of other government services and programmes, particularly in critical areas such as health care.

The digitisation process will connect the state’s more than 6,000 villages to the online system.

The web-based system will first be implemented in seven Shillong neighbourhoods: Nongrim Hills, Lapalang, Nongmynsong, Nongrah, Pohkseh, Riat Laban, and Wahdienglieng.

Furthermore, Sangma praised the efforts of the heads of various localities in collaborating with the administration and urged them to work with the government to ensure the program’s success.
