As Americans vote for the 47th President of the United States, JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate and Republican Vice Presidential candidate, has drawn attention not only for his political role but also for his private life. Vance, 40, a Senator from Ohio, was a surprising choice for Trump’s ticket due to his prior criticisms of the former president.
Outside of politics, JD Vance is a family man and father of three. His memoir, ‘Hillbilly Elegy’, a bestseller about his challenging upbringing in Ohio, brought Vance into the national spotlight and was later adapted into a Netflix film starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.
Who is Usha Vance?
JD Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, met JD in 2013 at Yale Law School, and they married a year later. Usha, 38, was born in San Diego to Indian immigrant parents Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri, both professors. She expressed mixed feelings about the spotlight’s impact on her family but reaffirmed her support for JD’s career.
A Glimpse Into Family Life
The couple has three children, whom they prefer to keep out of the public eye:
– Ewan, 7 – Their eldest son, born in 2017, is rarely featured in photos as the family values their privacy.
– Vivek, 4 – Born in February 2020, JD marked his son’s recent birthday by reading ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go!’ in a tribute on the Senate floor.
– Mirabel, 2 – Their youngest and only daughter was born in December 2021. JD shared his joy on Instagram, calling her an early Christmas gift.
The Vances’ choice to shield their children from the public eye highlights their desire to balance public duty with private family life.
