JAIPUR: In today’s digital era, prolonged screen time, reading, and environmental pollution can strain our eyes. Practicing simple eye exercises daily can help reduce fatigue, improve focus, and maintain overall eye health. These exercises strengthen eye muscles, enhance flexibility, and promote relaxation, making your eyes feel refreshed and less tired.

1. PALMING FOR RELAXATION Palming is a classic technique to relax the eyes. Rub your palms together to generate warmth, then gently place them over your closed eyes without pressing. Breathe deeply and stay in this position for 30-60 seconds. The warmth and darkness help relieve tension in the eye muscles and reduce eye strain from screens or prolonged reading.

2. EYE ROLLING Eye rolling is an effective exercise to enhance flexibility and relieve stiffness. Slowly roll your eyes in a circular motion—first clockwise, then counter-clockwise—10 times in each direction. This stimulates blood flow to the eye muscles, keeps them flexible, and reduces fatigue.

3. FOCUS SHIFTING This exercise improves focusing ability and eye coordination. Hold a pen or finger at arm’s length and focus on it. Gradually move it closer to your nose while maintaining focus, then return it to arm’s length. Repeat 10 times. It strengthens the ciliary muscles, which control the eye lens, improving near and far vision focus.

4. 20-20-20 RULE To prevent digital eye strain, follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at an object at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple break relaxes eye muscles, reduces strain, and prevents dryness and fatigue caused by staring at screens.

5. BLINKING AND EYE MASSAGE Consciously blinking 10-15 times every hour can prevent dryness. Additionally, gently massaging the area around your eyes and temples stimulates circulation and relaxes muscles.

Incorporating these exercises into your daily routine not only prevents eye strain but also helps maintain sharp vision and overall eye comfort. Combined with a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and regular eye check-ups, these simple practices can keep your eyes healthy, happy, and fatigue-free for years to come.
