A case of medical negligence occurred on November 12 at Anand Spectrum Hospital in Sector Gamma 1, Greater Noida, when a seven-year-old boy underwent surgery on the wrong eye. The boy, named Yudhisthir, was scheduled for a procedure on his left eye to address frequent watering but instead had his right eye operated on.
Family’s Experience and Hospital’s Response
Yudhisthir’s father, Nitin Bhati, took him to the hospital after noticing his left eye was consistently watering. Dr. Anand Verma, who examined him, reported finding a foreign, plastic-like object in the eye and recommended surgery as a solution. The operation cost the family ₹45,000, according to hospital officials.
However, upon returning home, Yudhisthir’s mother noticed that the procedure had been performed on his right eye instead. The family confronted Dr. Verma and his staff, but according to the police, the hospital staff allegedly mistreated them during the exchange.
Complaint and Investigation
Angered by the incident, the family protested at the hospital and filed an official complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautam Buddha Nagar. In his complaint, Yudhisthir’s father demanded the cancellation of Dr. Verma’s medical license and called for the hospital to be shut down.
The police confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been initiated, promising appropriate action against those responsible.
