Aimed at strengthening the stormwater drainage system at Sector 56, Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation has started the work of augmentation of providing and laying pipeline for the disposal of stormwater line at sector 56, Chandigarh.
City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta today laid the foundation stone for the augmentation of providing and laying a stormwater drainage system in the presence of Sh. Manaur, area councilor, other councilors and other prominent persons of the local area.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that this work will not only improve the stormwater drainage system in the area but also prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring smooth passage for commuters and residents.
He said that the existing stormwater drainage system in sector 56 is of smaller diameter and very old and broken at many places and chocked with malba and silt etc. The lines underneath the roads were not serviceable. The road gullies are also inadequate and due to the choking of lines, the same do not function properly for disposal of rainwater.
The Mayor said that this work will be completed within 6 months at an approximate cost of Rs. 7 crore. He said that the MCC will provide and lay 1200mm, 900mm, 700mm, 600mm, 450mm and 300mm RCC NP-2 pipelines having approximately lengths of 238m, 822m, 1227m., 2549 mtr. & 4795m respectively along with the construction of machine hole chambers and road gully chambers and a 300mm RCC pipeline having approximately a length of 1785m. for connection of road gullies with machine holes. He further said that this project aims to improve the SWD system and prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring smooth passage for commuters and residents of the area.
