MCC enhances sewerage and drainage in Burail village

Aimed at strengthening the sewerage system & and stormwater drainage system at village Burail, Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started the work of augmentation of providing and laying pipelines for the disposal of stormwater and construction of streets with paver blocks in internal streets.
Member Parliament of Chandigarh Kirron Kher today laid the foundation stone for the augmentation of providing and laying sewerage and stormwater drainage system in the presence of Anup Gupta, Mayor, Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, Senior Deputy Mayor & area councillor, other councillors and other prominent persons of the local area. While speaking on the occasion, the Member Parliament said that this work will not only improve the sewerage and stormwater drainage system in the village but also prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring smooth passage for commuters and local residents.She said that it was a long pending demand of the Burial residents that rainwater accumulates and causes inconvenience to local residents and commuters on some internal streets of the village. After conducting a survey, it has been decided that laying new sewerage and stormwater drainage lines is necessary on these internal streets. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation has started this work.
The Mayor said that this work will be completed within 12 months of the time period at an approximate cost of Rs. 3 crore. He said that the MCC will provide and lay 150mm, 200mm, 250mm & and 300mm i/d SW pipeline with an approximate length of 340mtr, 465mtr, 400mtr & 320mtr respectively along with the construction of machine holes for strengthening the sewerage system.
He said that regarding resolving the stagnation of the stormwater problem, a brick masonry channel will be constructed having approx. length of 780mtr, with an average depth of 2 ft. channel covered with precast RCC gratings and slabs. The Mayor said that once the pipeline is laid, the streets will be reconstructed using paver blocks. The aim of this project is to improve the Sewerage & and SWD system and to prevent rainwater stagnation, ensuring smooth passage for commuters and local residents, he added.
