Maya Hawke, the American actress and singer-songwriter, recently announced her new single, ‘Missing Out’, from her upcoming album ‘Chaos Angel’, set to release on May 31. The album, her third, follows her 2022 release ‘MOSS’ and 2020’s ‘Blush’. The music video for ‘Missing Out’, directed by Alex Ross Perry, features Maya’s face edited into various characters from old film and TV clips, suggesting an identity crisis theme.
In a press release, Hawke shared insights into the inspiration behind ‘Missing Out’, mentioning a moment at Brown University (where her brother attends) where a student expressed a desire to write the next great American novel. Hawke found this amusing, realizing her different perspective on life and the industry she works in, which inspired the song’s lyrics.
Aside from her music, Maya collaborated with her father, Ethan Hawke, on a cover of Willie Nelson’s ‘We Don’t Run’, which appeared on the cover album ‘Light in the Attic & Friends’. Maya also shared an acting tip from her father, where he advised planting a seed of truth about yourself into each character you play, which she incorporated into her role as Jamie Bernstein in the movie ‘Maestro’.
