Marina Lalramnghaki aims for Olympic success

Indian women’s hockey team midfielder Marina Lalramnghaki is aiming to make significant contributions to the team’s success in the upcoming 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Hailing from Mizoram, Marina recently secured a spot in the 33-member core group of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, currently undergoing rigorous training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Bengaluru.

Marina Lalramnghaki ‘s selection came after rigorous evaluations of a 60-member assessment squad during intense trials held on April 6 and 7. Her exceptional display of skill and unwavering determination during the trials highlighted her potential among the nation’s top hockey players. The 22-year-old midfielder, nurtured by Hockey Mizoram, showcased outstanding performance during the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship in Pune, scoring three goals and gaining attention for her agility and strategic play on the field.

Reflecting on her selection, Marina expressed her joy and gratitude, stating, “It was a dream come true moment for me, and tears of joy filled my eyes.” She credited her confidence in her abilities, which were reaffirmed by her successful trials. Marina’s aspirations include securing a spot in the 18-member Indian squad for future challenges while aiming for success in major tournaments like the Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup and the Olympics.

Marina’s journey in hockey began during her school days at the age of 10, eventually leading to her selection in the SAI Women Hockey Academy in Thenzawl, Mizoram. She draws inspiration from Lalremsiami, a fellow Mizoram native, and idolizes Indian team midfielder Sushila Chanu for their dedication and achievements in the sport. Marina’s story reflects determination, perseverance, and a strong desire to contribute to the legacy of Indian hockey on the international stage.
