The Territorial Army has successfully rescued two labourers who were trapped while clearing debris from a choked stream in Khongsang, according to an official statement from the Indian Army. The rescue operation, which took place on Friday, is still ongoing to locate a third missing labourer.

The trio was working to remove mud and debris under minor bridge 60, located between Thingou and Khongsang Railway Station. A sudden surge in debris flow led to the washing away of earthmoving equipment and trapped the workers in the stream.

Upon learning of the incident, a Territorial Army team quickly launched a search and rescue mission. While two of the labourers were rescued, efforts to find the third worker are still in progress, with additional troops dispatched to the scene.

The Territorial Army’s official statement described the incident: “Three labourers were engaged in clearing debris that had blocked the flow of a stream under minor bridge 60 (near Tunnel 11) between Thingou and Khongsang Railway Stations when the debris suddenly shifted, causing a rush of water, mud, and rocks that swept away the equipment and trapped the workers.”

The statement continued, “Upon receiving information, a rescue team from the Company Operating Base (COB) at Thingou was promptly deployed. The team, comprising one Officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer, and ten Other Ranks, managed to rescue two workers. The search for the third missing labourer is ongoing, with additional troops now on site.”
