Before coming to New Delhi for the G-20 summit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to ‘sweeten’ the minds of the Indian leaders by sending a special Mango gift. She has sent special varieties of mangoes from Rajshahi in north Bengal to President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other dignitaries. She has not forgotten to send mangoes to former Congress President Sonia Gandhi too. Diplomatic officials from Dhaka described that no special message should be interpreted for sending mangoes to the former Congress President. PM Hasina believes the relationship with the Gandhis is a ‘family relation’. It is beyond any political consideration. This time she has also sent mangoes to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Diplomats are speculating that during her visit to Delhi, a resolution on the river water sharing agreement is highly expected. Before the upcoming general election, Dhaka badly needs a resolution on the sharing of water, which has become an emotive issue for Bangladeshis.
