A man has been accused of sexually harassing a 15-year-old girl in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, after establishing contact with her on social media, according to Navi Mumbai police officials.
Between November 2022 and June 2023, the accused, identified as Altaf Sheikh, allegedly began by persuading the minor to share semi-nude photographs with him. He subsequently escalated his harassment by demanding more such images and threatening to expose the initial ones if she refused.
Following a complaint filed by the girl, the police took action on Wednesday, registering a case against Altaf Sheikh. The charges against him include offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as 354A (sexual harassment) and 354 (stalking), as well as violations of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, as confirmed by an official from the Kharghar police station.
