A 38-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been charged by the police for smoking in the lavatory of an IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Mumbai on Wednesday. The incident occurred about 50 minutes before the flight was due to land at Mumbai airport, with 176 passengers on board.
The man, identified as Khalil Kajammul Khan, entered the restroom and lit a cigarette. The smoke detectors in the lavatory alerted the cabin crew, who then inspected the area. They found a matchstick and a cigarette stub inside. “When he came out, the crew members inspected the lavatory and found a matchstick and a cigarette stub. They informed their superiors about the findings,” said an official.
Upon questioning by the crew, Khan admitted to smoking in the lavatory. After the aircraft landed in Mumbai, security personnel were notified, and Khan was taken to Sahar police station. The police have filed a case against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Aircraft Rules. The official noted that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
