A 27-year-old man has been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting and causing injuries to four policemen in Maharashtra’s Thane district, according to an official announcement.
The incident, which led to the arrest of Aniket Mhatre, a resident of Alibag, transpired on September 23 and resulted in his apprehension by city police. The episode unfolded when, on the night of September 23, a trailer was en route to Nhava Sheva. As it approached Mankoli Naka, it was intercepted by three individuals who proceeded to assault the driver and make off with a sum of Rs 3,500, as recounted by sub-inspector Santosh Shinde.
Subsequently, two of the accused fled the scene by jumping out of the vehicle, while the third, identified as Mhatre, continued his journey towards Saket Bridge in the trailer. In response to the distress call from the driver, the police arrived on the scene. However, Mhatre did not submit quietly. Instead, he purportedly vandalized the trailer and even resorted to hurling shards of broken glass at the police team, going so far as to bite some of the officers, as reported by the official.
This confrontation resulted in four policemen sustaining injuries. Subsequently, the authorities registered an offense under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in the commission of robbery), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
