The man accused of brutally killing a 24-year-old woman in her Bengaluru hostel was arrested in Madhya Pradesh today and is being transported to the city for further investigation, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand confirmed to NDTV.
The victim, Kriti Kumari, originally from Bihar, lived in a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru’s busy Koramangala neighborhood. On Tuesday night, a man armed with a knife entered the building around 11 pm and slit her throat before fleeing the scene.
Sources revealed that the accused is the boyfriend of Ms. Kumari’s roommate. The accused and the roommate frequently argued about his unemployment, and Ms. Kumari often intervened, escalating matters. Ms. Kumari reportedly advised her roommate to distance herself from the man, which provoked him to kill her, according to sources.
The brutal murder was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the hostel. The footage shows the man knocking on Ms. Kumari’s door, dragging her into the corridor, and pinning her against the wall. Despite her attempts to resist, he overpowered her and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck before fleeing. Other residents rushed out upon hearing the commotion, with one immediately calling the police.
Commissioner Dayanand stated that the investigation is being expedited. The Bengaluru police had formed three dedicated teams to apprehend the accused.
