West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused certain media outlets of spreading a malicious disinformation campaign following her recent speech. Banerjee strongly denied allegations that she had made derogatory comments about medical students or their protests related to the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

In a detailed statement posted on X, Banerjee emphasized, “I want to clearly state that I did not make any negative remarks about medical students or their protests. I fully support their cause, and their movement is entirely legitimate. The accusations suggesting that I threatened them are utterly false.”

Banerjee’s response comes amid a growing controversy over her speech, which some have interpreted as critical of the student protests. The Chief Minister’s statement seeks to clarify her position and refute claims made against her, stressing her support for the students and their activism.
