Malkit Singh Jandiala mesmerises audience with classical music brilliance

Pracheen Kala Kendra, an organisation dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and dissemination of Indian Classical Art and Music, collaborated with Polo Hindustani Art Heritage & Cultural Trust organised a classical music evening. Noted Vocalist Malkit Singh Jandiala captivated the audience with his performance.

Malkit Singh started singing at the age of eight, encouraged by his mother to learn the ‘shabad’s of the Gurbani. Despite a busy schedule as a lawyer, he dedicated his spare time to rigorous ‘riyaaz’ and excelled in Hindustani vocal music. Topping the university in M.A.-1 in 1990, he learned under renowned vocalists like Dr. Bhupinder Sheetal, Prof. Yashpal, Dr. Arvind Datta of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr. Gurnam Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Malkit Singh also refined his skills under the guidance of vocal maestro Suresh Gopal Shree Khande of the Mevat Gharana.

Honourable Mr. Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj, a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, and Sardar Charan Singh Sapra, Former Trustee of Hazur Sahib, was the Guest of Honour. Dignitaries like Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Davinder Pal Singh, Devender Kadyan, Sandeep Sahni, and Mr. Harold Carver were also present.

Dr. Malkit Singh Jandiala commenced the evening with Raag Jog, presenting a Vilambit bandish “piyarwa ko bir maye.” He followed with a bandish in Madhya laya “karam kartar ki jo mo pe aaj” and a Tarana. The recital concluded with a shabad in the nirdharit raag Shri. Tabla maestro Ustad Akram Khan, Sh. Sumit Mishra on Harmonium, and Ustad Murad Ali on Sarangi accompanied the performance.

The event included a book release ceremony for Dr. Malkit Singh Jandiala’s book “Aadi Granth Shri Guru Granth Sahib ka Raag Prabandh, ek vishleshnatmak Adhyayan,” unveiled by Sardar Charan Singh Sapra.

A felicitation ceremony honoured Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant, Dr. Shobha Koser, Dr. Pankajmala Sharma, and Pt. Kale Ram with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of all artists, and Sajal Koser, Secretary of the Kendra, expressed gratitude to the audience, media, distinguished guests, and performing artists.
