A 23-year-old labourer, Bharat Sitaram Rai, lost his life on Wednesday after falling from the ninth floor of a residential building in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. The unfortunate incident occurred while Rai was engaged in the installation of a water pipe for air-conditioners.
The Mumbai police swiftly registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the contractor overseeing the project, Mukesh Chaurasia. The charges levied against Chaurasia specifically focus on causing death due to negligence, highlighting the potential lack of safety measures in place.
The grieving family, particularly Rai’s elder brother, Vijaykumar (25), raised concerns over the circumstances leading to the tragic incident. According to Vijaykumar, his brother met with the fatal accident because the contractor failed to provide any safety gear during the work.
Vijaykumar, who works in Pune, received a harrowing call on Wednesday night informing him about the incident. The caller revealed that Bharat Sitaram Rai had fallen from the ninth floor of the Jhelum building in the Bhatwadi area of Ghatkopar. Rai was subsequently admitted to Rajawadi Hospital.
