According to a recent media report, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has escalated his criticism of India, affirming that no Indian military personnel, not even those dressed in civilian attire, will be in his country after May 10. This statement follows the arrival of an Indian civilian team in the Maldives to take control of one of the three aviation platforms, well ahead of the March 10 deadline agreed upon for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel.
President Muizzu made these remarks during his visit to the Baa atoll Eydhafushi residential community, emphasizing the successful expulsion of Indian troops and dismissing rumors about their continued presence in civilian clothing. He assured that Indian troops, whether in uniform or civilian attire, would not remain in the country after May 10, despite signing a military aid agreement with China on the same day.
The Maldivian Foreign Ministry previously announced that India would replace its military personnel operating the three aviation platforms by May 10, with the first phase completed by March 10. Mr. Muizzu, known for his anti-India stance, demanded the removal of Indian personnel from the archipelago soon after assuming office last year. According to reports, Indian military personnel stationed in various locations are expected to depart before the May 10 deadline.
