In a major security operation, the Jammu and Kashmir police, in collaboration with the Army (16 RR) and the 38th Battalion of the CRPF, successfully prevented a significant terror attack in Poonch. On the evening of September 12, 2024, they arrested a terrorist associate linked to the Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) at a joint security checkpoint set up at the Potha bypass.

The arrest occurred when security personnel, conducting routine checks, noticed a suspicious individual traveling from Surankote towards Potha. The man tried to escape upon spotting the forces but was quickly captured. A search of his blue bag uncovered three HE 36 hand grenades, explosive materials, and other incriminating items.

The arrested man, Mohammad Shabbir, son of Mohammad Farooq and a resident of Daryala Nowshera, was found to be in contact with a handler based in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Azeem Khan alias Mudeer. Khan had directed Shabbir to collect the explosives from Surankote.

The police have taken action on this case and expect further arrests as the investigation progresses. This operation has thwarted a potentially deadly attack, and security forces in the region remain on high alert.
