Based on a true story, ‘Maidaan’ is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and stars Ajay Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, a man who dedicated his life to football, bringing great pride to India. Alongside Ajay, the film features Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh in key roles.

The trailer begins with Priyamani’s character motivating her husband, Syed Abdul Rahim, played by Ajay, by expressing her belief that India can achieve football glory in the upcoming Olympics, set in the 1950s.

The video also showcases Ajay’s character assembling a team of young footballers from humble backgrounds, gradually shaping India’s underdog team, despite bureaucratic hurdles represented by Gajraj Rao’s character. Alongside on-field challenges, Ajay and his team face opposition from protesters outside demanding India to “go back.”

Previously, the trailer highlighted Ajay’s character’s efforts to elevate India’s football status globally. It depicted him recruiting and training a team, including players from underprivileged backgrounds, to achieve international success.

“We aren’t the largest country, neither the richest. Half of the world doesn’t know us. Football can create our identity because the whole world plays football. So, India needs to focus on making a world-class team for the next 10 years,” Ajay stated in the trailer’s voiceover.

The ‘Maidaan’ trailer drew comparisons to films like SRK’s ‘Chak De! India’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’, where both actors portrayed hockey coaches leading their teams to historic victories.

The film features a musical score by Oscar-winner AR Rahman. In 2020, producer Boney Kapoor had to dismantle the film set due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Additionally, in May 2021, the ‘Maidaan’ set was damaged by Cyclone Tauktae.

‘Maidaan’ is scheduled to hit theaters on April 10.
