Bollywood star Mahie Gill and Punjabi actor Kamaldeep Singh alias Hobby Dhaliwal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday in the presence of Union Minister for Jal Shakti and Punjab BJP in-charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Dhaliwal, who protested against the BJP government at the Centre over the Farm Bills, said: “The Bills are revoked now, and I have seen BJP’s efforts for Punjab which is why I am joining them without any zeal for tickets.”
Gill, while thanking the BJP leadership for letting her in the family, said: “I would wish to work for Punjab girls. I would wish to change the mindset of people who brought up girls as liability not as an asset.”
While speaking to The Daily Guardian, Gill further said: “I so wish girls that girls are brought up as neutral gender and are provided education. My journey has just started and I will do my best whatever responsibility is given to me.”
Shekhawat said that the Punjabiyat of Punjab is getting eloped somewhere. “The BJP is committed to bring back the pride of Punjab for the harmony of the country and Punjab. The BJP’s influence will increase with the arrival of Mahie Gill and Hobby Dhaliwal.”
Shekhawat also welcomed Daman Bajwa of Himachal Youth Congress, Amarjeet Singh Tikka, chairman of Punjab Small Industry Board, Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, chairman of Punjab Youth Development Board, and Nishan Singh Toni, president of Sunam Municipal Council along with many Congress workers into party fold.
The Union minister said that everyone was aware of the ruckus made by the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress regarding the chief minister’s face. “The politics of Punjab has gone far beyond this. Today BJP leaders and workers are being welcomed in every village here. Citizens everywhere, from cities to villages, want change.”
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar welcomed Gill and Dhaliwal to the BJP. He said that their joining has given great strength to the BJP. BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam and Subhash Sharma were also present on the occasion.
