Maharashtra has seen a notable uptick in Covid-19 cases, recording 87 new infections and two fatalities in the past day. This represents a surge of over double the count reported on Tuesday, which stood at 37 cases within a 24-hour span. This rise is linked to an increase in daily testing, with 10,864 tests conducted during this period. The state has not reported new cases of JN.1 sub-variant. After dissolving the Covid task force months ago, the state health department has announced a new task force to guide the government in formulating rules and regulations necessary to contain the virus as cases rise.
The Congress is all set to kickstart its campaign for the next year’s Lok Sabha elections with its mega rally ‘Hain Tayyar Hum’ to be held in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city on Thursday, the party’s 139th foundation day. “It will be a historic moment for the people of the country,” Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Wednesday said addressing a press conference at the venue of the event. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will address the rally, according to party leaders. The mega event assumes significance as it will be held in Nagpur, where the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) headquarters and ‘Deekshabhoomi’, the historic place where Dr B R Ambedkar embraced Buddhism, are located.
Meanwhile, two fishermen died while four others were admitted to hospital after inhaling suspected poisonous gases released by dead fish kept inside the storage containers on their boat, which returned to the shore in Mumbai on Tuesday.
