Police have arrested Rajendra Singh Bidawat and Rajesh Shah, the father of the main accused, Mihir Shah, for their alleged involvement in the Worli hit-and-run case that occurred on Sunday, July 7. Both were taken to Worli Police Station after their medical examination.
This incident involved a BMW car hitting a bike in Mumbai’s Worli area, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, a 45-year-old woman, who was traveling with her husband. Meanwhile, Mihir Shah, the main accused, has been absconding since the incident. The police have formed six teams to locate him.
Rajesh Shah and Rajendra Singh Bidawat were arrested for not cooperating with the police and other charges. They will be presented in court on Monday. The deceased’s husband sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Earlier on Sunday, Worli police confiscated the BMW car from the Bandra region. A statement from the Mumbai Police confirmed that the car ran over two people riding a bike, resulting in the woman’s death and injuring her husband. The incident took place at 5:30 am in front of Atria Mall in Worli. The luxury car belonged to a leader of a political party based in Maharashtra’s Palghar, and his son was in the car with the driver.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the hit-and-run. “The Mumbai hit-and-run case is very unfortunate. I had a conversation with the police. Whoever is guilty, action will be taken against them. We treat everyone equally. Whatever happens will be legal,” CM Shinde said.
Aaditya Thackeray also commented on the case on his official X handle, saying, “Visited the Worli Police Station today and met with senior police officers investigating the hit-and-run case. I hope the police will act swiftly to catch the accused and bring him to justice. Hopefully, there will be no political refuge by the regime.” Thackeray and MLC Sunil Shinde met Nakwa, the husband of the victim, and promised to do everything to bring the accused to justice.
