In a rapid response, Maharashtra police successfully rescued a brother-sister duo, kidnapped for ransom in Vasai, Palghar district. The daring rescue operation took place within two hours of receiving the distress call, highlighting the efficiency of law enforcement.
The incident unfolded on the evening of December 23 when a 17-year-old girl and her eight-year-old brother were abducted from Naigaon in Vasai. The kidnappers, demanding a hefty Rs 10 lakh ransom, threatened the children’s lives, claiming to have a bomb in their possession.
Swift action was initiated after the distressed father reported the abduction to the police. DCP Poornima Chowgule-Shinge of Zone II stated, “After receiving a complaint from the father of the kidnapped children, police formed three teams which worked on several leads.”
Following a tip-off, the police tracked the whereabouts of the kidnapped siblings to a room in Kashigaon village, located in Thane district. A crime detection cell team from Naigaon police conducted a raid on the night of December 23, successfully rescuing the children around 10 pm.
The alleged kidnappers, identified as Jaiprakash alias Sonu Gangaram Gupta (23) and Vipul Sashikant Tiwari (20), were traced to the Vakipada area in Vasai and apprehended around 1 am on Monday after a chase.
“We traced and rescued the children within two hours of registering the offence, and kidnappers were arrested within five hours,” emphasized the police officer.
The accused duo has been remanded to police custody until December 29 by a local court. They face charges of kidnapping and criminal conspiracy, with an ongoing investigation to uncover further details.
