In a public address in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress, alleging that they’ve resorted to spreading falsehoods in the election due to their inability to compete with him on development. He emphasized his commitment to serving the underprivileged and Adivasis, drawing parallels between their needs and those of his own family. Modi highlighted his humble upbringing and empathy for suffering, contrasting it with the perceived elitism of the Congress.
The Prime Minister likened the Congress’s stance on reservation to the saying “chor machaye shor,” indicating that they create noise to distract from their shortcomings. He reiterated that the Congress has resorted to spreading misinformation in the election because they cannot compete with him on development. Modi criticized the idea of religion-based reservation, stating that it goes against the principles of Babasaheb Ambedkar and amounts to betraying the framers of the Constitution. He described it as an unforgivable sin.
In Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his criticisms of the Congress, accusing them of attempting to divert reservation benefits from SCs, STs, and OBCs to Muslims under the guise of minority welfare. Modi contrasted this with his commitment to safeguarding the reservation rights of these marginalized communities. He challenged the Congress to publicly commit to preserving these reservations intact but received no response, which he interpreted as indicative of their hidden agenda.
Furthermore, Modi emphasized his role as the protector of the rights of the deprived, asserting that under his watch, no one would dare to encroach upon those rights. His statements were made in the context of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, where he voiced his support for BJP candidate Heena Gavit, who is contesting against Gowaal Padavi.
Gavit had previously secured victory in the Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency during the 2019 general elections. Maharashtra holds significant electoral weight, contributing 48 Lok Sabha seats, making it the second-largest contributor to the lower house of Parliament. The state’s polling is being conducted in five phases: April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.
During the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the dominant party in Maharashtra, winning 23 seats, followed by its ally Shiv Sena, which secured 18 seats. In contrast, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress managed to secure only four and one seat, respectively.
