The Maharashtra government is set to auction the properties of internationally wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim in Mumbai and Ratnagiri on January 5, 2024. These four properties, including bungalows and mango orchards in Khed Taluka, were seized under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA). The government has previously identified and auctioned several properties linked to Dawood’s family.
Among the previously auctioned properties are a restaurant, sold for Rs 4.53 crore, six flats fetching Rs 3.53 crore, and a guest house that garnered Rs 3.52 crore. In December 2020, Dawood Ibrahim’s assets in Ratnagiri, including two plots and a defunct petrol pump, were auctioned for Rs 1.10 crore. These properties in Lote village of Khed Taluka were registered in the name of Dawood’s late sister, Haseena Parkar.
According to the report, a 600 sq ft flat in Nagpada was auctioned in April 2019 for Rs 1.80 crore.
In 2018, SAFEMA officials auctioned Dawood’s property at Pakmodia Street with a reserved price of Rs 79.43 lakh. It was purchased by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) for Rs 3.51 crore. The upcoming auction continues the government’s efforts to divest Dawood Ibrahim’s properties acquired through illegal means.
