Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar assured on Saturday that NCP MLA Sunit Tingre is ready for any inquiry regarding the Pune car accident that resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals on May 19. The victims were traveling on a bike when the incident occurred.
Ajit Pawar clarified that Tingre has not been making public appearances due to high blood sugar levels. “The Home Minister and CM Shinde ensured that an inquiry started immediately after the incident. I did not contact the Pune CP about this case. Our MLA Sunit Tingre held a press conference and stated he is unwell due to high sugar levels, which is why he is not in the public eye. He told me he is ready for any inquiry and that he has done nothing wrong,” Pawar said.
In related developments, the mother of the minor accused in the accident was arrested earlier on Saturday, confirmed Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

Retired IAS officer Arun Bhatia has called for the transfer of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar in a letter to the Chairman of the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission (MHRC). Bhatia requested an investigation into Kumar’s conduct and the appointment of a doctor as Chief Medical Officer based on political recommendations. He also demanded an immediate public report on the investigation’s progress, citing delays and lapses.
Bhatia accused the Police Commissioner of protecting corrupt officials and obstructing justice. “The present Police Commissioner cannot be relied upon to ensure transparency,” he stated, emphasizing that the minor involved in the crash was granted bail rather than being placed in a remand home.
