Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the BJP state president, anticipates a political upheaval in Maharashtra, announcing the party’s intention to recruit leaders from other parties in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls. Bawankule, along with Devendra Fadnavis, has been tasked by the party leadership to initiate this recruitment drive from this month onwards.
Addressing the BJP’s ‘Super Warriors’ gathering in Pune, Bawankule stated, “I have been given the responsibility of roping in big political leaders into the party… Therefore, in the coming days, the state will witness a political upheaval.” The meeting saw the presence of key figures like State Minister Chandrakant Patil, MP Prakash Javadekar, Medha Kulkarni, Dheeraj Ghate, Siddharth Shirole, and Sunil Kamble.
Speculation is rife about the BJP targeting senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan, with MP Prataprao Chikhalikar openly predicting Chavan’s potential shift to the saffron party. Chavan, however, has denied any such plans.
Bawankule emphasized the party’s directive to recruit seasoned politicians from other parties, both winners and losers of elections over the past 25 years. He expects many new faces to join the BJP in the coming days.
The BJP state chief highlighted the ‘Super Warriors’ initiative, aimed at securing maximum seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance. Encouraging party members to engage in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ with citizens, Bawankule stressed the importance of expanding followership day by day.
