Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has called for a swift conclusion to seat-sharing talks within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance as the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach. While Pawar himself is not directly involved in the discussions, he emphasized the importance of reaching a decision soon. The seat-sharing negotiations are ongoing between the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), with Jayant Patil representing Pawar’s faction in the talks.

Addressing a press conference, Pawar stressed that while he isn’t part of these discussions, leaders from each party involved—such as Nana Patole from Congress and Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena—are progressing toward an agreement. He noted that multiple meetings have already taken place, and while there is agreement on some issues, further discussions are needed to finalize certain details. Pawar expressed confidence that the public sentiment in Maharashtra is favorable for change, indicating that a strong and united MVA could capitalize on this mood.

Pawar also sought to clarify that despite rumors of rifts within the alliance, the only conflict during the recent Lok Sabha elections occurred in the Sangli constituency. He dismissed this as a localized issue, underscoring the unity of the MVA in all other areas. However, questions surrounding internal party dynamics remain, particularly with the potential candidacy of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is part of the rival NCP faction led by the BJP-backed Eknath Shinde government.

The broader context of the seat-sharing talks is rooted in the political shifts within Maharashtra. Following the split of Ajit Pawar’s faction from Sharad Pawar’s NCP and his alignment with the BJP-led government, there have been speculations regarding how the NCP (SP) will navigate its alliances for the Assembly elections. Additionally, with the political dynamics in Maharashtra being as volatile as ever, there is pressure on the MVA to present a unified front to challenge the BJP-Mahayuti coalition.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, these seat-sharing discussions will be pivotal in determining the strength and coherence of the opposition against the ruling government.
