On one hand, while the government is working to support and encourage the female population by bringing in the Women’s Reservation Bill, on the other hand, the situation of Maharani Mahavidyalaya, the biggest girls’ college in the state, is different. When The Daily Guardian team reached this college to do a reality check of the studies of about eight thousand female students, the teachers along with the principal were found missing. There were students in some classes, but there were no teachers. At the same time, most of the classrooms were lying vacant.
On the condition of anonymity, the students said that teachers are often absent in most of the morning classes, and even the college principal does not come before 11 o’clock. However, it is not just the morning, the situation remains the same throughout the day.
In Rajasthan University, including other educational institutions, 75 per cent attendance is mandatory. In such a situation, the question arises of how is this attendance being accomplished without the students coming. Experts say that teachers are marking the attendance of students at their discretion. It is noteworthy that if students do not come to school or college, it is the responsibility of the head of the institution to inform the parents about it. But, till now the college administration has not even sent the notice of absence to the parents.
