Following the riots that erupted during the Brij Mandal Yatra held on July 31, a Hindu mahapanchayat held in Palwal district of Haryana in the presence of a committee of 51 people decided to complete the incomplete journey of Braj Mandal on August 28. Besides, it was also announced to hold a mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 20 ahead of the Brij Mandal Yatra. An appeal was also made to the government to give Rs 1 crore to the relatives of the deceased, a government job, and Rs 50 lakh to the injured, along with a demand to abolish Nuh district. On the other hand, the people who participated in the mahapanchayat say that the Nuh riots should be investigated by the NIA.
Officials have confirmed that the ‘Sarva Jatiya Mahapanchayat’ was initially scheduled for Kira village in Nuh district. However, due to existing law and order concerns, permission was denied for that location. According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Palwal, Sandeep Mor, the Mahapanchayat was permitted to be held in Palwal later.
Meanwhile, it was a setback to the Mahapanchayat as five Pals (Khaps) completely boycotted the Hindu Mahapanchayat. The mahapanchayat was shocked by this decision. Along with Dagar Pal, Panches of Rawat Sehrawat, Chauhan, and Tewatia Pal also boycotted the mahapanchayat, expressing their consent, which was confirmed by the representatives of Khaps. This decision was taken by holding a panchayat in Dagar Pal’s big village, Mandkola. On the other hand, it was said from the side of the five Pals that there are VHP and RSS people in it, while the people from the Muslim community were not invited, hence the mahapanchayat was boycotted.
Regarding the issue, Chaudhary Dharambir Dagar, President of Dagar Pal, said that the duty of pals and khaps is to unite society, not to spoil its harmony and brotherhood. We wanted all Hindu-Muslim people to participate in the mahapanchayat and talk about mutual brotherhood and harmony. Some people want to break society by raising the cloak of religious organisations, which is absolutely wrong.
Likewise, prior to this, the attitude of Khap Panchayats in the whole matter was completely against Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad in a Khap Panchayat meeting held in Hisar. The call for a boycott of Muslims by the Bajrang Dal and VHP emerges as the reason behind this. In the panchayat held in Hisar, on behalf of Khap representatives, it was said that some people have tried to disturb mutual brotherhood, and we will not allow it to be disturbed. Bajrang Dal and VHP should be banned in all the villages of the state.
Notably, Nuh was engulfed in communal clashes when a VHP procession was attacked by a mob, which resulted in the unfortunate deaths of six people, including two home guards and a cleric. In this backdrop, the ‘Mahapanchayat’ assumes significance as it addresses the situation and discusses the possible resumption of the Braj Mandal Yatra.
