According to a report from the district tribal affairs department, at least 11 government school teachers in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district have been regularly attending classes while intoxicated. Officials have started an internal investigation against them. Additionally, notices have been issued to nine other teachers who were absent for long periods without informing the authorities.

Assistant Commissioner Santosh Shukla of the Tribal Affairs Department in Dindori district stated that a meeting was held on June 28 with education officers to look into these issues. He mentioned, “Around 11-12 teachers are accused of drinking alcohol and teaching classes. We have begun an inquiry into their behavior. They will need to explain their actions. However, they have not been suspended yet. Whether they actually consumed alcohol will be confirmed by a medical report.”

Shukla also highlighted that nine teachers who were absent for extended periods, some for several years, have been served notices. He explained, “It appears they took other jobs without informing the department. They did not receive salaries during their absence.”

Furthermore, Shukla noted that at least seven teachers are allegedly violating civil service rules by having two spouses. He added, “We are looking into these cases, some of which are in court.”

To enhance the quality of education in government schools across the district, Shukla mentioned plans to conduct similar investigations in all development blocks.
