A police case has been filed against Madhavi Latha, the BJP candidate from Hyderabad after her video went viral on Monday.

In the viral video, Latha was seen checking the voter ID cards of Muslim women during her polling station’s visit.

As a result, a case has been registered under sections 171C, 186, 505(1)(c) of IPC and Section 132 of the Representation of the People Act.

Taking to X, Hyderabad collector said, “A case is registered in Malakpet Police Station against Smt Madhavi Latha, contesting candidate, BJP under sections 171C, 186, 505(1)(c) of IPC and Section 132 of the Representation of the People Act.”

Meanwhile, talking about the viral video, Madhavi asserted that she had just asked them to verify their identity, and this isn’t a crime.

“I am a candidate. As per law candidate has the right to check the ID cards without the facemasks. I am not a man, I am a woman and with a lot of humbleness, I have only requested them – can I please see and verify with the ID cards? If somebody wants to make a big issue out of it, that means they are scared.” said Latha.

This development coincides with earlier events of the day when Madhavi Latha raised serious allegations regarding discrepancies in the voter’s list within her constituency.

Speaking about the voter’s discrepancy Latha alleged that Hyderabad police isn’t active. they are not keeping track of who is who.

Further anecdotally stated that some people are of Goshamahal but their names are included in the list of Rangareddy.

Madhavi Latha competes against four-time MP & AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and BRS’s Gaddam Srinivas Yadav in Hyderabad Lok Sabha elections.
