The fifth phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections is set for May 20. On election days, banks in various cities will remain closed. Here is a list of the cities where banks will be closed during the fifth phase of the elections.

Cities with Bank Closures on May 20

For the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, banks will be closed in Mumbai, Lucknow, and Belapur, as per the RBI bank holiday list.

Phase 5 Elections Locations

The fifth phase of elections will take place in the following states and Union Territories: Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Government Holidays

The Maharashtra government has issued a circular emphasizing the importance of granting voters a paid holiday to ensure they can exercise their voting rights during the Lok Sabha General Election 2024. The circular specifies that workers, officers, employees, and persons who are voters in the affected areas should receive a paid holiday on Election Day.

May Bank Holidays

Bank holidays in May include: Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labour Day), Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya, Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, State Day, Buddha Pournima, and Nazrul Jayanti.

Bank Holidays in May

  • May 23- Buddha Pournima (Thursday):** Banks will be closed in Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Lucknow, Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
  • May 25- Nazrul Jayanti/Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 (fourth Saturday):** Banks will be closed in Tripura and Orissa.

The RBI categorizes holidays into three types: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act; Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
