The stage is set for the counting of votes from all seven phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, beginning today at 8 am. Attention is focused on whether the exit poll predictions will prove accurate and if Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure a historic third consecutive term.
A party or coalition needs at least 272 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats to govern at the center. Should the NDA win under Modi’s leadership, he will become the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve three consecutive terms.
Exit Poll Predictions:
Most exit polls forecast a decisive victory for the Modi-led NDA, predicting over 350 seats. Notably, India Today-My Axis India, India TV-CNX, and News24-Todays Chanakya predicted over 400 seats for the ruling coalition. While the BJP is confident of surpassing the majority mark and has planned celebrations, the Opposition’s INDIA bloc has dismissed the exit poll results.
Previous Election Results:
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, pollsters predicted around 285 seats for the NDA. The actual result saw the NDA winning 353 seats, with the BJP securing 303 seats alone. The Opposition’s UPA managed only 93 seats, with Congress winning 52. In the 2014 elections, the NDA was estimated to win between 257-340 seats, but ultimately secured 336 seats, leading to Narendra Modi’s first term as Prime Minister.
