Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) jointly unveiled the Logo and Mascot for the Khelo India Winter Games 2024 in a ceremony held today. The event marks a significant step in promoting winter sports and recognizing the achievements of athletes in the region.
During the unveiling, LG Sinha congratulated the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, and extended his best wishes to the players, officials, and organizing committees. He emphasized that the Khelo India Winter Games showcase sporting excellence, courage, and character against the backdrop of the stunning snow-covered mountains, making it a spectacular event for the J&K Union Territory.
Highlighting the significance of the Snow Leopard as the Mascot, Sinha noted that it symbolizes the natural heritage of the Himalayas and underscores the government’s commitment to wildlife protection and preservation.
Under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, J&K has emerged as a preferred destination for winter sports, with the Lt Governor expressing enthusiasm for hosting athletes from across the country. In the upcoming 4th edition of the Winter Games, snow skating, ice hockey, and curling will take place in Ladakh, while other events are scheduled at the renowned ski resort, Gulmarg.
The launch ceremony was attended by Ms. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary Sports, Government of India; Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Sh Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Ms. Yasha Mudgul, Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism; Sh Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services & Sports J&K; along with officials and members of the organizing committee, reflecting a collective commitment to the success of the Khelo India Winter Games 2024.
