Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81, his son and current Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on Monday.
“Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today, I feel completely empty,” Hemant Soren shared in an emotional post on X.

Shibu Soren had been undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for over a month and was on ventilator support. He was admitted in the last week of June due to kidney-related complications and had been receiving prolonged medical care.
A towering figure in Jharkhand politics, Soren led the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for nearly four decades and was widely revered as the party’s founding patron. He served several terms in the Lok Sabha during his political career, serving as the Dumka constituency’s representative from 1980 to 1984, 1989 to 1998, and 2002 to 2019.
During his time at the Center, he also served as the Union Minister for Coal. With Soren’s passing, a chapter in the tribal and regional political history of Jharkhand comes to a close.
