Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 12th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort, highlighting Operation Sindoor and praising the armed forces for their response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. He said the forces were given full operational freedom and “punished enemies beyond their imagination.”
Ahead of his address, PM Modi wished the nation a happy Independence Day on Twitter, sharing his vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and urging citizens to work towards realizing the dreams of freedom fighters.
On the eve of Independence Day, senior military officers and personnel involved in Operation Sindoor were honoured. Nine IAF pilots and four Indian Army personnel received the Vir Chakra for their roles in precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan. IAF personnel operating the S-400 air defence systems during May 7-10 operations were also awarded.
Meanwhile, 23 CRPF personnel were awarded gallantry medals, including Constables Saddam Hussain, Feda Hussain Dar, and Sanjay Tiwari, who received the Shaurya Chakra, the third-highest peacetime gallantry award. The CRPF emerged as the paramilitary force with the highest gallantry awards this year.
