Bihar Election 2025 Voting Phase 1 Live Updates

The first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 has begun, marking the start of one of the most closely watched political battles of the year. Voting is being held today across 121 constituencies in 18 districts, setting the stage for a two-phase election that will decide the fate of the 243-member state assembly.

Voting began at 7 a.m. and will continue till 6 p.m. (5 p.m. in some regions). The election features a triangular contest between the ruling NDA (BJP-JD(U) alliance), the opposition Mahagathbandhan (RJD-Congress bloc), and Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which is contesting its first-ever election in Bihar.

Prominent leaders are contesting in this phase, including:

  • Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary (BJP) from Tarapur

  • Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) from Raghopur

  • Tej Pratap Yadav (RJD) from Mahua

  • Maithili Thakur (BJP) from Alinagar

  • Anant Singh (JD(U)) from Mokama

Maithilli Thakur, a Folk singer-turned-BJP rookie, has been fielded in the seat to energize the Mithilanchal region and take on veteran rivals. Maithili Thakur (25) has promised a cultural revival, youth engagement, and improvements in local infrastructure.

Chapra Election Live Updates: Khesari Lal Yadav

Bhojpuri star actor and RJD candidate from Chapra, Khesari Lal Yadav, makes his poll debut, touting his popularity as a vehicle for change in Saran district. He defends his entertainment career and argues that songs didn’t cause the region’s development issues.

Mahua Election Live Updates: Tej Pratap Yadav

The elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej  Pratap, is contesting from Mahua under his new party after exiting RJD, making the seat a high-profile face-off in his political reinvention. He has made health infrastructure a campaign priority, notably spotlighting a non-functional hospital project.

Raghopur Election Live Updates: Tejashwi Yadav

The RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan’s CM candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, contests from Raghopur in an attempt to consolidate his base and turn this seat into his mandate for larger state politics. He asserts that the seat is not about a legislator but a leader of Bihar.

Tarapur Election Live Updates: Samrat Choudhary

Mokama Election Live Updates: Anant Singh

Former Bihar MLA and JD(U) candidate in the forthcoming Bihar assembly elections, Anant Singh, was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav. Singh, the candidate from Mokama and husband of sitting MLA Neelam Devi, was arrested at his residence in Barh. Apart from Singh, police arrested two other persons, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, who were eyewitnesses to the crime, SSP Patna, Kartikeya Sharma confirmed.

Voter Turnout and Constituencies

Around 3.75 crore voters, including 10.72 lakh first-time electors, will decide the fate of 1,314 candidates contesting across 18 districts, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Nalanda, and Bhojpur. Voting is being conducted at 45,341 polling stations, with the majority located in rural areas.

Political Alliances and Contesting Parties

The NDA consists of JD(U), BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM, and RLM.

The Mahagathbandhan includes RJD, Congress, Left parties, and VIP.

Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj Party, led by political strategist Prashant Kishor, is contesting on all 243 seats in its debut election, making the race even more competitive.

PM Modi’s Message to Voters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to voters to participate enthusiastically in the democratic process.

He wrote on X in Hindi, which roughly translates to, “Today in Bihar is the first phase of the festival of democracy. My appeal to all voters of this phase is to vote with full enthusiasm. My special congratulations to all the young companions of the state who are casting their vote for the first time. Remember first voting, then refreshments!”

A Crucial Start to Bihar’s Political Battle

As the first phase of polling unfolds, all eyes are on Bihar’s voters to determine which alliance gains the upper hand. The results will set the tone for the second phase of voting and potentially shape the state’s political future for the next five years.
